Job description

month internship during their placement year in industry as a Design Studio Assistant. You will be
working closely with all womenswear designers, gaining a strong insight into all areas of product
including knitwear, wovens, jersey, prints and embellishments and the full design process from initial
research to production. This is an invaluable opportunity to gain experience within a small design
team and will exceed to help you in gaining a graduate role after university. This placement covers
travel expenses within London and £5 for lunch/day.

Main Duties

PLM has added substantial data entry time to the design workload. Data inputting
of Fabric & Materials library on the system is particularly time consuming
• Set up sketches, colours and fabrics on PLM with the designers.
• Assisting the designers generally using the PLM system

• General office admin, e.g. keeping the department tidy and organized, filing fabrics
into relevant boxes, making files for the designers when necessary, recycling fabric
• Keeping the shared drive organized, so files are easy to locate
• Setting up development sheets, and adding fabrics and sketches to PLM for the
designers at the start of the season
• Communicating with Production to get style numbers for each style to include on
the development sheets and spec packs
• Ensuring that at all times, development sheets are up to date and that everyone has
the most recent version (e.g. replacing development sheets on boards and in files, as
well as passing sheets to PR/ Production, and sending out to factories)
• Any scanning/ copying/ emailing of files that the designers need, ensuring files are
saved appropriately once they have been scanned in
• Making digital colour palettes on PLM, and sending out colour standards to factories
at the start of the season

DHL/ Post:
• Collecting the post deliveries from 1st floor twice daily with the other interns. Bring
post up to 2nd floor and distribute accordingly.
• Packing up and sending out any outgoing post for the designers.
• Keeping track of DHL AWB numbers and sending tracking details to factories when
• Track parcels for the designers, and speak to DHL when needed.

• General research for the season, as well as more detailed research into a specific
area such as trims/ specific garment category/ embellishment etc. this will be
dependent on the designer’s needs.
• Recording details of vintage samples, taking photos,otes, measurements etc and
keeping the Vintage Archive file up to date
• Keeping up to date with upcoming exhibitions/ sources of inspiration and feeding
back to the designers

• Creating quick initial artwork mock ups to review with the designers, based on their
specific requirements
• Making CADs of embroidery/ embellishment/graphic artworks. Amending scale/
colour where appropriate
• Preparing and sending physical artwork to the factories

• Making physical colour palettes ahead of showing
• Hanging and steaming samples as they arrive, keeping track of what samples have
arrived/ what is outstanding
• Helping if any samples need amending in house e.g. unpicking/ tacking etc
• Sewing in any back neck labels that are missing
• Adding swing tickets to garments so they have all relevant information
• Helping the designers dress the model and shoot looks ahead of show
• Helping the designers to merchandise the collection on rails
• General assistance in the run up to the show

What you will learn / we will teach you:

-Industry Technical knowledge of woven design and production
-How to CAD and create tech packs with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
-How to use the database PLM
-How to style and prepare for seasonal showings
-How to create artworks / embroideries.

Due to the current situation this role is part time and will be a mixture of working in the office and from home.


We're looking for a student currently completing their placement year.

We are aware that applicants may not have much previous industry experience but we do require applicants to have experience in the below at university.

- A good level knowledge and understanding of Photoshop and Illustrator
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Highly organised and confident to take responsibility of tasks given and to see them completed to a high standard.
