Job description

Purpose of the role

Reporting to the Head of Category, the Senior Category Manager - Skin Care is responsible for Aesop's Skin Care portfolio, driving long-term sustainable category growth. The Senior Category Manager is involved in actively determining and driving the Skin Care Category Strategy, ensuring flawless execution across the business. This role will also have direct management responsibility of a Product Category Assistant (supporting multiple categories), providing direct development, coaching and guidance.

A global role with remit across Asia, ANZ, Europe and Americas, the Senior Category Manager - Skin Care will be engaged in strategic planning and decision making. The nature of this role requires flexibility in working hours/arrangements to accommodate the need for regular regional/global meetings within and across time zones.

The Senior Category Manager will effectively own and operate the Skin Care category as if it were their own business - forming the key contact/conduit for all relevant category & product-based discussions across all channels.

Broad responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the regular review of category health/performance, determination & review of Product Life Cycle (PLC), implementation of initiatives to drive improved sustainability and the identification of new product opportunities (including reformulation and/or re-packaging) requirements.

This role may also require active engagement with the Natura & Co Group, representing Aesop as and when required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Be the voice of skin care across the business. Know your category, inside and out.
  • Determine clear 5yr category strategy plans, working closely with Head of Category and cross-functional partners (updating & evolving as required).
  • Drive flawless strategy implementation across all business touchpoints, partnering on a Global, Regional and Local level.
  • Periodically review performance and efficiency of product portfolio; Lead Range Review Meetings with Head of Category (and relevant cross-functional partners) to analyse product performance on an (at minimum) annual basis and provide input to recommend reformulation, repackaging, marketing support or deletion of poor performers.
  • Work closely with the Strategic Pricing & Forecasting Manager on determining market/competitor sets, and aligning global pricing recommendations for new products and/or reformulations as relevant.
  • Ensure a robust product pipeline (5yr horizon) for assigned categories (working with Head of Category, Packaging & Artwork Manager, Head of R&D and Compliance, Director, Product).
  • Actively align and share category plans with cross-functional partners including Marketing, Customer and Retail.
  • Commercial Planning: Ensure visibility of consolidated forecasts and commercial expectations across NPD and other initiatives, to achieve category plans.
  • Work closely with Head of Category and Global Marketing team in the development of the Marketing/Merchandising Calendar (seeking input/feedback from Product Development team as relevant).
  • Determine plans for continued product support post-launch to ensure the ongoing success of the product portfolio; Make recommendations and execute plans alongside Marketing, Retail Operations, Digital, VM, Training, Customer and other teams as relevant.
  • Support business sustainability targets and roadmap by driving initiatives to improve sustainability, within the Skin Care category, including the implementation of circularity projects as relevant.

Profile

Who we are looking for

  • Demonstrable progressive experience within the (manufactured) consumer goods and/or beauty industry -including time specifically spent in skin care
  • Experience working for a global organisation
  • International work experience (ideally across >2 regions) highly regarded.
  • Hands on experience owning and driving sustainable category growth (at relative speed) in a global organisation.
  • Strong commercial acumen and business/financial understanding.
  • Experience working with a Stage Gate Process/Model.
  • A willingness to 'roll sleeves up' to actively elevate (and teach) category management expertise, process and understanding.
  • Advanced communication and senior stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong Emotional Intelligence.
  • Exceptional time management and project management skills.
  • Scrupulous attention to detail.
  • Proactive & collaborative problem solving ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cost/budget, scope, schedule and risk.
  • A passion for people/team leadership and development.
  • Proven people management experience.
The global nature of this role will require the successful candidate to attend regular meetings (virtual and/or physical) across global time-zones. Working arrangements have a degree of flexibility to accommodate these needs (to be managed by the Senior Category Manager, with support of the Head of Category). International travel may also be required as and when travel resumes (according to Aesop, Natura &Co & government travel policies).
