Core Responsibilities

Working within the framework of the seasonal women’s wear development cycles to meet on time-critical path deadlines meeting the business objectives with regards to quality, fit, construction and standards of manufacture.

Responsible for running the in house studio and supporting the Product Developers in creating the first garment specifications at the beginning of the development, through to SMS.

Working with Pattern Cutters, Machinists, Studio Coordinator, Product Development Team and Design team at various stages within the season. Overall responsibility for quality standards.

General Responsibilities

•Manage/book all freelance Creative Pattern Cutters and Machinists (with the assistance of the studio coordinator)
•Works directly with Creative Director and Product Development team throughout the development phase of the collection and attends regular fit meetings
•Responsible for trialling all new freelancers
•Overall responsible for the budget of the Studio and work closely with the Product Development Manager to ensure the budget remains within seasonal targets
•Ultimately responsible for all patterns being finished to a high standard with correct annotations, and any toiles or samples are correctly annotated and the relevant documents accompanying pattern or toile/sample are kept up to date
•Works with Print Designer, PD Manager and Design Manager on the placement of print on pattern pieces
•Measures all samples prior to a development fit meeting in conjunction with the Studio Coordinator and relevant pattern cutter
•Responsible for overseeing the Studio Coordinator in the checking, logging, processing and paying of invoices relating to Studio expenses, and day to day budgetary expenses
•Responsible for overseeing the Studio Coordinator logging of the Freelance trackers - Maintain visual ‘work progression boards', working boxes and priority lists, in conjunction with the Studio Coordinator
•Organize the prioritization of patterns, cutting and machining to ensure a smooth regular work flow and ensures the workroom is being utilized to its best capacity
•Works in conjunction with the Fabric and Trims Developer to ensure all new fabrics have fusing suitability tests actioned as well as trials and are suitable for end use
•Raise Technical Sheets for all styles, prior to issuing a new style either in-house or to a supplier in conjunction with the Product Development Team
•Oversees a ‘sample pack' for the factories, Tech Sheet, Fabric, Trims, Pattern, Pattern Measurements and Noted up Toile, in conjunction with the Product Development Team
•Responsible for liaising with the Pattern Cutters and Product Development team to create lay plans and costings of patterns in accordance with the seasonal deadlines and company critical path
•Responsible for creating and maintaining all standard ‘brand measurements works alongside the Production Garment tech for the on-time and accurate creation of grades for all styles after the Production Fit meetings, whether in house or via 3rd party
•Ensures Graded patterns are checked prior to dispatching to Production team
•Supervise the measure of all in house and returning samples in conjunction with the Pattern Cutters, Product Development and Studio Coordinator
•Organize weekly fits in conjunction with the Product Development and Design
•Responsible for overseeing and maintaining all stock levels in the Studio (fabrics, paper, card, sewing/ pattern equipment, trims, etc)
•Maintains stock audit spreadsheets of all Studio fabrics and components levels in conjunction with teams
•Ensure weekly meetings occur with the Fabric and Trim Developer, Product Development team and Studio Coordinator regarding stock levels
•All seasonal fabric and trims to be packed away at the close of the season
•Maintaining fabric/trim lists in storage
•Maintain cleanliness and neatness in Workroom
•Oversees and is responsible for general administrative duties of the Atelier


To have a minimum of 8 years' experience in a women's wear RTW Atelier producing samples to a very high technical standard. 
Must include Luxury experience within their employment history and worked across all women's wear categories. 
Must have proven track record in leading the workroom in producing samples to make ready for CMT and Fully Factored production with factories in the UK and Europe as well as the Far East. 
Good technical knowledge required of construction, in the areas of pattern, fit, grading, fusing and finishing’s, as well as a technical understanding of print placement technique. 
Good understanding of costing implications for finishing and construction and must have experience of using different machines. 
Candidate should be a good communicator, highly organized, good at prioritization and good at relationship building and maintaining, as well as a proven track record of working as part of a team. 
Must be flexible, proactive and able to work to tight deadlines and understand process implementation for smooth running of the Studio. Also with highly proficient skills set in Excel, Word and Outlook.
