Job description

The Buying Manager for Wines and Spirits will support they Head Of Food, Wine and Spirits in delivering the strategic vision for the division, effectively driving the business across all channels. The Buying Manager is future orientated, works with their team to define the department commercial strategy to achieve sales and profit growth

The Buying Manager motivates their team and creates great relationships with suppliers and key stakeholders. They are able to deliver sales and profit growth, optimise omni-channel performance, and monitor the extent to which the department is working to achieve these goals. The Buying Manager understands the customer and scans the horizon for opportunities and risks.

About The Role

Our Food, Wine and Spirits buying team manages the buying for all of our food, both in store and online, as well as our 26 restaurants. In this role you will be managing two buyers who you will lead, develop and inspire the team. You'll collaborate with teams business wide, including dot com, merchandise planning, finance analysts and TSD for shop fits. You'll establish the direction for the team based on divisional strategy and future business needs.

This position will work with the Head of on setting budgets for areas of responsibility, analysing sales figures and negotiating to source the product at the lowest cost whilst not compromising on quality. You monitor the performance of areas of responsibility against financial objectives taking corrective action where necessary.

About You

  • You will be an experienced buyer of wines and spirits, preferably in a multi-brand retail environment.
  • Ideally you will have a background in both on trade and off trade
  • You will understand the luxury food landscape, having built an innate knowledge over the course of their experience that they can leverage to Harrods' advantage.
  • You will be creative with high taste levels and experience in pop-ups, advertising takeovers, exclusives etc.
  • Strong people leader with a focus on coaching and developing their team
  • You will be commercially astute and able to understand key areas for opportunity
  • You will also be able to challenge where needed and in turn stand up to challenges from around the business
